ICTVdB Tutorial
Introduction

General Information

Introduction The purpose of this tutorial is to assist first-time users in understanding how to access the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses database (ICTVdB).

The audience for this tutorial is scientists, researchers, and the general public; such as students, parents, writers, and medical practitioners. It is assumed the user knows how to use a Web browser and a PC keyboard/mouse.

Background The ICTVdB is a dynamic database containing information about viruses of animals, . plants, bacteria, and fungi. Though initially designed for taxonomic (or classification) research, the ICTVdB has evolved to become a major reference resource and research tool.

The database is authorized by the ICTV, an international assembly of experts that rules on names and relationships of all viruses.
