Derivation of Name Arteri: from equine arteritis, the disease caused by the type species virus. Corona: from Latin corona for "crown", representing the appearance of surface projections in negatively stained electron micrographs of the virus particles. Nido: from Latin nides, meaning "nest", representing the nested set of mRNAs. Oka: refers to the oka or lymphoid organ in which the viruses are commonly detected and in which pathology occurs during acute infections. Lymphoid organs are anatomical structures common to decapond crusteaceans. Toro: from Latin torus, the lowest convex moulding in the base of a column, refers to the nucleocapsid morphology.
