Similarity with other Taxa

Corticoviruses resemble tectiviruses in having a lipid bilayer underneath the capsid. These viruses appear to differ by their capsid geometry and most probably by the infection mechanism, since no tail-like membrane tube is seen upon infection in corticoviruses.

Derivation of Names

Cortico: from Latin cortex, corticis, "crust", "bark".
